Boris Johnson tells BBC to 'stop the wetness' over Rule, Britannia! row
Telegraph, 25 Aug 2020
Boris Johnson said the UK needs to stop the "wetness" and "cringing embarrassment" about its colonial history, following the row over changes to the Last Night at the Proms.
This morning The Telegraph reported that the BBC was defying the Government over plans to perform Land Of Hope And Glory and Rule Britannia! without the words, during a slimmed-down version of the annual event.
The broadcaster will play orchestral versions only, with no soloist singing the lyrics. As there will be no audience because of coronavirus restrictions, there will be no-one to sing along to them either.
