Beirut explosion: Lebanese Canadians rally to help devastated city
CA, 07 Aug 2020
In Canada, the tragedy in Beirut is hitting close to home. Lebanese Canadians are doing whatever they can to support victims and families grieving in the aftermath of the deadly explosion.
On Tuesday, two explosions erupted in Beirut's port, ravaging the capital of Lebanon. The blast killed at least 137 people, injured thousands more and left tens of thousands homeless.
The first explosion is believed to have caused a fire which then touched off a stockpile of 2,750 tons of highly explosive ammonium nitrate that authorities left sitting in a warehouse for years - despite a customs official's repeated warnings.
Kamil Karamali reports on what Lebanese Canadians are doing in response.
