Authorities in Australia said on Thursday they had rescued 70 pilot whales involved in the country's largest recorded mass stranding.
Around 470 whales were found near the remote coastal town of Strahan on the southern island state of Tasmania but about 380 were confirmed to have died.
Some are still stranded on sand bars as authorities race to try and free them.
Marine conservation program wildlife biologist Kris Carlyon said four of the whales may have to be put down.
