U.S. Senators debate police reform: “we are again in a nightmare”
CA, 17 Jun 2020
At a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham urged lawmakers to unite behind the common cause of police reform.
Sen. Cory Booker stated “we are again in a nightmare,” and that he feared the country was going to “repeat history,” while Sen. Amy Klobuchar stated that “Now is time to act. The people are demanding it.”
Sen. Kamala Harris also criticized President Donald Trump's executive order on police reform, which was issued earlier Tuesday, saying, “there is nothing about what the president announced today that would hold police officers who break the rules and break the law accountable."
The hearing examined issues involving race and policing practices following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn., which sparked nationwide protests against police brutality and anti-Black racism.
