EU imposes new sanctions on Belarus as migrant crisis escalates

The European Union has agreed to impose more sanctions against Belarus, aimed at everyone involved in facilitating the transport of people to Belarus’s border with Poland.
Thousands of migrants are trapped there in temporary camps in freezing conditions.
The European Union has accused President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime of deliberately orchestrating the crisis, with migrants flying to Belarus from the Middle East and then being transported to the border of the EU.
