Ontario Provincial Police say a wheel detached from a trailer being towed by a westbound pickup truck on Highway 401, between McCowan Road and Markham Road in the Scarborough area of Toronto, and struck an eastbound vehicle killing the 24-year-old driver.

Christian Romero-Mancilla of Toronto was killed when a pickup truck pulling a trailer lost a tire, which plowed through his windshield Wednesday morning.

Family and friends fondly remembered Romero-Mancilla as “funny” and “loving,” including his wife, who said the couple was planning to start a family in 2021.

Kamil Karamali reports.
