Coronavirus: Prince Edward Island reports 3 new cases, first since end of April

CA, 05 Jul 2020
Prince Edward Island's (P.E.I.) chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison held a COVID-19 briefing on Saturday to report that the province had three new cases of people who tested positive for the coronavirus – the first to be reported since April 28.

Morrison said one is a man in his 50s who is an essential worker and travelled outside the region. He later travelled back to P.E.I. in a vehicle and is self-isolating. The two other cases are people in their 20s, a male and a female, with these two believed connected, and the male's case is related to travel to Nova Scotia where he had contact with someone from the U.S. The woman works at Whisperwood Villa and recently worked at the home, but does not have direct care with residents, wore personal protective equipment (PPE) and left as soon as she began feeling unwell.

Morrison said the cases are not associated with the newly formed "Atlantic bubble" that was announced for the four Atlantic provinces to allow for people who live in the Atlantic Canada provinces to move between each without having to self-isolate for 14 days.

Premier Dennis King said they would take the next 24 to 48 hours to allow for contact tracing and public health officers to do "what they need to do," and if the public health information and epidemiology points to pulling back from the "bubble," they would do so if needed.
