Coronavirus: Uptick in Canada's daily cases associated with young people, health official says

CA, 22 Jul 2020
Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Public Health Office of Canada Dr. Howard Njoo remarked on the recent uptick of daily coronavirus cases in Canada, saying the vast majority of the increase in the proportion of cases is among young adults.

Dr. Njoo said there were a number of reasons to explain the increase, including fatigue, indoor parties, and the "invincible factor" of young people who are most likely to have mild or asymptomatic symptoms of COVID-19.

After recent analysis, 55% of new cases have been young adults, and Njoo called this "concerning" as all businesses begin reopening across the country.

"I think Canadians have made tremendous sacrifices and we've succeeded overall in flattening the curve. But that success is fragile and it only takes a few sparks and so on to backslide and create obviously the situation we don't want." Njoo said.
