Democrats call for briefing from intelligence agencies on alleged bounties on U.S. troops | FULL
CA, 30 Jun 2020
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer speaks to media on Tuesday following a White House briefing about allegations that Russian military intelligence secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing American troops in Afghanistan.
The White House insisted President Donald Trump himself had not been fully read this report.
Hoyer told reporters on Tuesday, following a briefing by Trump administration officials, that said briefing should have been given by representatives of the U.S. intelligence community, not members of the Trump administration at the White House.
As well, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff said in his opinion, there is a real crisis in the White House of staffers not briefing U.S. President Donald Trump on news "he doesn't want to hear" - specifically in this case the report on alleged bounties being paid by Russia for dead U.S. service members.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denied such reports that country operatives had offered bounties to the Taliban on U.S. troops and that no American representatives had raised the question with Russia.
