Rishi Sunak promises to 'halve inflation' during New Year's address

Telegraph, 04 Jan 2023
Rishi Sunak has pledged to halve the rate of inflation this year as he used his first major speech of 2023 to make five promises to voters.

The Prime Minister said he will halve inflation, grow the economy, make sure the national debt shrinks, ensure NHS waiting lists fall and pass new laws to crackdown on the migrant Channel crossings crisis.

The annual rate of CPI inflation was 10.7 per cent in the year to November 2022 which means the PM has 12 months to get the number down to something close to five per cent.

Mr Sunak said his five promises will “deliver peace of mind” to voters and help to build a “better future for our children and grandchildren”.
