Suella Braverman delivers Rwanda asylum policy statement to Commons

Telegraph, 20 Dec 2022
Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, has said she is "committed" to making the plan to send migrants to Rwanda work.

The Government's policy to send migrants to Rwanda to claim asylum is lawful, the High Court has ruled.

Several challenges were brought against the proposals announced by Priti Patel, the then home secretary, in April, which she described as a "world-first agreement" with the east African nation in a bid to deter migrants from crossing the Channel.

The first deportation flight - which was due to take off on June 14 - was grounded amid a series of objections against individual removals and the policy as a whole.

However, at the High Court in London on Monday, senior judges rejected arguments that the plans were unlawful.

Ms Braverman will deliver an oral statement in the Commons at around 3.30pm.
