Remains found during search for Constance Marten’s baby
Telegraph, 02 Mar 2023
Breaking - Police looking for the baby of Constance Marten and her boyfriend announced that they found the remains of an infant after a two-month-long search for the couple and their newborn.
Officers from the Metropolitan and Sussex Police forces had scoured 91 square miles of land around the South Downs following the couple’s arrest in Brighton on Monday evening.
The discovery followed an exhaustive search by more than 200 officers and volunteers across woodland, allotments and fields across the downs between Newhaven and Brighton.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, of the Metropolitan Police, told a press conference at Sussex Police’s headquarters in Lewes: “Police officers searching a wooded area close to where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested, discovered the remains of a baby.
“This is an outcome that myself and the many officers who have been part of the search, had hoped would not happen.
“I recognise the impact this news will have on the many people who have been following this story closely, and can assure them that we will do everything we possibly can to establish what has happened.”
