China reported its first Covid-19 death in eight months on January 13, 2021. The patient died in Hebei province, which has become one of the worst-affected areas in the country. Officials in Hebei said they had confirmed 90 new Covid-19 infections the next day. Thousands of residents have been evacuated to a quarantine facility. Construction workers are racing to build a large-scale quarantine facility in Shijiazhuang that will have 3,000 makeshift housing units. The militia was also called in to assist at isolation points.
