Turkey began a nationwide mass vaccination campaign on January 14, 2021, with the CoronaVac vaccine produced by Chinese drug maker Sinovac Biotech. Health care workers and other high-risk groups were first in line for the jabs. President Tayyip Erdogan also received his first dose of the Chinese vaccine. Turkey had reported more than 2.3 million cases and over 23,400 deaths as of January 14.
