Ships began diverting around Africa to avoid the blocked Suez Canal on Friday, a much longer route that exposes them to an increased risk of piracy near the Horn of Africa.

The 400 metre-long container ship Ever Given was wedged across the canal for a fourth day on Friday, as rescue teams with tugboats, earthmovers and a specialised dredger worked to free the vessel.
