Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced Thursday that there are now 259 pharmacies offering the COVID-19 vaccine in the province, with more coming as the vaccine supply increases.

“Pharmacies are playing a critical role in offering every Albertan who wants a vaccine the chance to get one by the end of June. We know the demand is there, and look forward to bringing hundreds of more pharmacies online to administer vaccine in the coming weeks as more vaccines arrive in our province,” Kenney said.

The province expects 500 Alberta pharmacies will be offering the vaccine by early April, both Kenney and the health minister said.

The premier also announced that a malfunction in an aircraft grounded a shipment of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine headed to Alberta and that this week’s shipment will be split over two weeks.

“This is entirely the responsibility of the federal government, and they have not given us an explanation,” said Kenney.

As of March 17, 418,633 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta.
