Canadian officials provide update on COVID-19 response | LIVE

CA, 19 Mar 2021
Canadian officials are expected to provide an update on the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday.

Health Canada on Thursday said the benefits of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine “continue to outweigh the risks” after investigating reported blood clots, and encouraged Canadians to receive it if offered.

Nearly a dozen countries also resumed the use of AstraZeneca’s shots on Friday after the top European drug regulator declared it safe after their own comprehensive review found no links to increased risk of blood clots.

Health Canada approved the AstraZeneca vaccine for use for those 18 years or older in late February. It became the third COVID-19 shot green-lit in Canada, joining vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

The United States also plans to send roughly 4 million doses of AstraZeneca‘s COVID-19 vaccine that it is not using to Mexico and Canada in loan deals with the two countries, bowing to pressure to share vaccine with its allies.
