The collapse of a dam at a small reservoir in China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on June 7, 2020, could be a harbinger of the way increasingly extreme weather is testing the nation’s infrastructure. Many of the country's 94,000 ageing dams have been tested by recent heavy rain and flooding. China has raised its flood alert levels for the Yangtze River and Huai River, as flood prevention and relief efforts continue along those river basins. The record floods are also raising concerns about ageing dams at smaller reservoirs across the country.
