White House senior advisor and son-in-law to U.S. President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, spoke at a media briefing alongside Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and other White House officials on Thursday.

Kushner began by congratulating Israel and the United Arab Emirates, calling news of their agreement a “historic breakthrough” and "a great day for peace.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier on Thursday that the U.A.E. and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic ties as part of a deal to halt the annexation of occupied land sought by the Palestinians for their future state.

The announcement makes the U.A.E. the first Gulf Arab state to do so and only the third Arab nation to have active diplomatic ties to Israel.

When asked how long Israel had agreed to suspend its West Bank annexation plans as part of a normalization deal with the U.A.E., Kushner also said that it will take “a while for these agreements to get fully enforced.”
