EU rejects Belarus vote result, warns of imminent new sanctions

The European Union has rejected the result of the election in Belarus.
Following an emergency meeting, it has announced sanctions against those it deems responsible for suppressing protests, as well as making money available for pro-democracy groups in Belarus.
The EU's moves were seen as meddling by the Russian government, which, a day earlier, had warned Germany not to interfere.
