Golden State Killer Joseph D’Angelo sentenced to life in prison without parole

CA, 22 Aug 2020
Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Bowman on Friday sentenced Joseph D’Angelo, a former California police officer who has become known as the Golden State Killer, to multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Bowman said the 74-year-old will die in prison after pleading guilty to 13 murders and 13 rape-related charges between 1975 and 1986.

D’Angelo also admitted to dozens more sexual assaults for which the statute of limitations had expired. In a statement prior to his sentencing, D’Angelo told his victims he was “truly sorry” for the pain he caused.

The judge said after listening to statements from victims of D’Angelo he was “moved by their courage, their grace and their strength.”

Bowman said he hoped that survivors could find “some resolution, some peace and hopefully find some justice” in his sentencing, “however imperfect.”
