U.S. President Donald Trump called the reopening of schools “very important for our country” during a summit with several state governors and other administration officials on how to reopen schools safely amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the government wants to get schools open quickly, “beautifully, in the fall” and said that while it’s a horrible disease, “young people do extraordinarily well.”

Trump also praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose state is seeing a spike in cases, for doing a “terrific job” and declared that schools will be open soon.
