CA, 09 Jun 2020
The family of George Floyd was joined on Monday by family members of other Black men who’ve lost their lives in the U.S. at the hands of police.
Family members of Eric Garner, Botham Jean and Michael Brown spoke out in support of the Floyd family, and encouraged them to continue the fight for racial justice.
Garner and Brown both died in 2014. Garner died after a New York City police officer put him in a chokehold while arresting him. Brown was fatally shot by an officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
Jean was shot and killed in 2018 by an officer who said she had mistakenly entered his Dallas, Texas apartment believing it to be hers.
The father of Ahmaud Arbery, who was killed by three white men while jogging in Glynn County, Georgia, also spoke out in support of the Floyd family on Monday.
Floyd, a Black man, died of suffocation while in police custody an officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes.
