Coronavirus: Ford accuses teachers' unions of wanting to "cause trouble" over labour board challenge

CA, 01 Sep 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Monday announced that his government would spend $9.3 million on 11 training projects in the automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors to help get people to work in these industries.

He said the investment would include $2.2 million to create over 600 internship opportunities with the Auto Parts Manufacturing Association.

The premier also addressed the recent labour board challenge from Ontario teachers’ unions.

The province’s four teachers' unions announced Monday they would file challenges with the labour board over the province’s back-to-school plans, saying the government hasn’t “adequately responded” to health and safety concerns.

Ford said he “can’t understand” the decision and that he is now “begging” the teachers’ unions to work with his government on reopening schools. The premier claimed his government has given the unions everything they have asked for and accused them of trying “to cause trouble.”
