Coronavirus: UK to allow social bubbles of up to three households over the holidays
CA, 17 Dec 2020
Speaking to the media and to the British public, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson stressed on Wednesday that the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions to allow up to three households to form a bubble over Christmas are "limits" and not "targets".
Johnson advised people to minimise contacts before seeing loved ones at Christmas, and to avoid travelling from high prevalence areas to ones that are not so badly affected.
"I want to be clear: we don't want to, as I say, to ban Christmas, to cancel it, and I think that would be frankly inhuman and against the instincts of many people in this country," Johnson said.
He has said that it would be "frankly inhuman" to ban Christmas.
With new infections rising in many parts of the country, there are growing concerns that the government's Christmas relaxation will see a further escalation in infections and deaths and put too much pressure on the already-stressed National Health Service.
