Democratic National Convention: Bill Clinton, AOC, Dr. Jill Biden and more speak on Day 2 | FULL
CA, 19 Aug 2020
Former President of the United States Bill Clinton and former Second Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden were among the speakers that highlighted the second day of the Democratic National Convention, which will be held entirely online this year as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The speaking program for Tuesday also included New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, former Secretary of State John Kerry and former acting U.S. attorney general Sally Yates.
Like Monday, a Republican supporting Joe Biden also spoke during the convention, this time former U.S. secretary of state under George W. Bush, Colin Powell.
The second day centred around the theme of "Leadership Matters," giving voice to rising stars in the party like Ocasio-Cortez and Stacey Abrams, while having longtime Democrats former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter and former secretary of state John Kerry a chance to share their thoughts about the future.
Also part of the second night was the party's official nominating roll call, with a total of 57 states and territories participating. It was recast this year into a montage of leaders, all formally nominating Joe Biden.
The keynote address, which propelled then-Sen. Barack Obama into the national spotlight in the 2004 convention, was shared by 17 young Democratic elected officials, each giving a slice of the speech.
