Coronavirus: New Brunswick education minister lays out details of returning to schools plan | FULL

CA, 14 Aug 2020
New Brunswick Education Minister Dominic Cardy and the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Jennifer Russell, provided details of the back-to-school plan in the province on Thursday.

In the plan, kindergarten to Grade 8 class grouping (bubbles) will minimize the risk of transmission in the school setting and promote safe social interactions.

High schools will use blended learning, create more personalized learning opportunities and use physical distancing to minimize the risk of transmission.

On mask-wearing policy, Minister Cardy said that students of all ages will need to bring a clean face mask to school with them every day, but not everyone will be required to wear it.

Students in Kindergarten and up to grade 5 will be encouraged to wear a mask in common areas such as hallways and washrooms, but won't be required to do so.

Students in grades 6 to 12 will be required to wear a face mask in common areas.

When there is a positive case in a school, the province said the school will be informed by Public Health, then the school administration will communicate with parents and the school community, he added.

New Brunswick reported two new cases of the coronavirus Thursday involving temporary foreign workers who arrived in Moncton.
