Louisville mayor addresses fatal shooting at Breonna Taylor protest at Jefferson Square Park | LIVE

CA, 29 Jun 2020
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and police officials confirmed on Sunday that one person had died after a suspect opened fire at Jefferson Square Park, where demonstrators had gathered to protest the death of Breonna Taylor.

Interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said the suspect, who was wounded in the attack, had been “participating” in the protests and had been arrested “a couple of times over the past several weeks.” Schroeder said the suspect had also repeatedly been asked to leave by other protesters.

Video posted on social media appeared to show a man opening fire into the park as people scrambled for cover.

Schroeder said multiple people in the park were armed and said investigators are working to identify any others who may have fired weapons.

The protest in the park was meant to call for action in the case of Breonna Taylor, a Black woman who was fatally shot by Louisville police officers as they executed a no-knock search warrant at her apartment.
