Coronavirus: New Brunswick announces guidelines for scholastic sports, clubs amid pandemic
CA, 26 Aug 2020
Deputy Minister for Education George Daley announced guidelines for school sports and activities on Tuesday as children are set to head back to school next month, encouraging teachers to use outdoor spaces as much as possible for physical education. He said when not always feasible, gymnasium use is permitted. Students must wash and sanitize their hands before entering and leaving physical education classes. These guidelines also apply to school clubs.
Daley said that should a provincial zone move into orange or red, intramural activities would be suspended.
In terms of competitive sports, Daley added that for all grades the events should be limited sub-divisions of school districts or within small regions to limit interactions across regions. Spectators will be limited to 50 people in outdoor settings and should maintain physical distance from others of two metres. No spectators will be allowed for events held indoors.
