North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un inspected the east coast province of Hamgyong on September 5, 2020, two days after Typhoon Maysak made landfall in the area. The storm reportedly caused dozens of casualties and destroyed more than 1,000 houses. Kim appeared on state-run broadcaster KRT, leading a discussion of recovery measures with high-ranking officials and replacing a local provincial party committee chairman.
