Labour peer Lord Young caught sleeping in House of Lords
Telegraph, 15 Mar 2022
A Labour peer was blocked from taking part in a debate after he was accused of falling asleep in the House of Lords.
Lord Young of Norwood Green stood up to speak just after 10pm on Monday during a debate about proposed changes to gene editing laws after Brexit.
The 79-year-old Labour life peer told the Lords: "I wanted to take part in this debate because I stake my position as somebody who is a Remainer.
"But if there’s two things that I welcome in coming out of the Common Market, one is the CAP and this particular gene editing…”
Lord Young was then interrupted by Lady Bloomfield, a Conservative whip, who said he had been "fast asleep for the entire duration" of a speech by Lord Benyon, the environment minister speaking on behalf of the Government.
