Kentucky tornadoes: Governor provides update as dozens still missing | LIVE
CA, 15 Dec 2021
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is expected to provide an update Tuesday on recovery efforts after the deadly swarm of weekend tornadoes in the state.
On Monday evening, he reported the death toll had risen to 74 in Kentucky alone, with at least 109 people still missing. As of Tuesday, a total of at least 88 people had died after the tornadoes ripped across five states on Friday. The Kentucky governor said the number of fatalities in his state would likely rise in the coming days.
Beshear also said earlier on Monday that significant debris removal is currently underway as the damage from four tornadoes across 18 counties left "a mountain of waste" that will take months to rebuild.
State officials warned Monday that residents of Kentucky counties where the tornadoes killed several dozen people could be without heat, water or electricity in frigid temperatures for weeks or longer.
