Afghan girls from US-based NGO Ascend Athletics are among hundreds of American passport and visa holders who have been trying to fly out from an airport in northern Afghanistan for more than a week, says the NGO’s founder and director Marina LeGree. A US lawmaker has accused the Taliban of stopping them from leaving Mazar-i-Sharif International Airport. LeGree says 34 Hazara girls and women from her NGO have been waiting to leave from Mazar airport but are stuck amid confusion involving US officials and the Taliban.
