Robots to piece together shards of ancient Roman mosaics from Pompeii

State-of-the-art robotics technology will be used for the physical reconstruction of broken archaeological artefacts recovered from the site of Pompeii.
The RePAIR project, acronym of Reconstruction the past: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics meet Cultural Heritage, will use robots with mechanical arms that are capable of scanning the fragments and recognising them through a 3D digitisation system. The pieces can them be constructed back together.
