Alberta puts pause on further lifting COVID-19 restrictions until Sept. 27: Hinshaw | FULL
CA, 13 Aug 2021
Alberta is pausing its plan to further lift COVID-19 restrictions for six weeks, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced on Friday, adding she's been monitoring local and international data on the pandemic.
Currently isolation requirements, testing and provincial masking mandates remain in place.
Plus, Hinshaw and Education Minister Adriana LaGrange provided an update on back-to-school guidance and the ongoing work to protect public health in schools.
Alberta's Teachers Association has requested the government to implement a set of recommendations once students head back to schools, including that vaccines should be provided in schools to eligible students whose parents provide consent and staff.
The group says measures like masking and distancing will still be needed in schools.
Currently, the government’s school plan says the “public health measures in place during the 2020-2021 school year will be eased or removed altogether,” like the masking and cohorting requirements.
