Thousands of people rushed to evacuate Kabul after the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, prompting scenes of chaos inside the airport.

Since then, the crowds have been held up outside the airport as they continue to attempt to escape the country. Amid the tense moments, US and Taliban soldiers have opened fire into the air to disperse crowds as they mob access gates.

A number of people have been killed in and around the airport since August 15. The deaths were caused by gunfire and stampedes, according to the Taliban.
