A candlelight vigil has been held in the Indian for a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and killed on August 1, 2021. People gathered in New Delhi on August 4 to mourn the young life lost and condemn sexual violence. The killing of the girl who had gone out to fetch water from a crematorium near her house in the city’s Cantonment area has sparked days of protests. The capital’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered a judicial inquiry into the case, which has put renewed scrutiny on India’s problem with sexual violence.
