Stories on stones: The hidden rock engravings of Abourma in Djibouti

AFP, 06 Aug 2021
Abourma, in northern Djibouti, is one of the most important rock art sites in the Horn of Africa. This region has a rich archaeological heritage, and is known as the "cradle of humankind". The rock engravings are specifically interesting as they show animals that no longer live in this region - an indication of how the environment changed over the past 7000 years. And yet, very few people outside of the region know about it.
