China and Russia hold joint military exercise involving 10,000 troops
Telegraph, 10 Aug 2021
Russia and China held a large-scale joint military exercise in north-central China involving more than 10,000 troops.
It's the first joint military exercise held inside China since the outbreak of Covid-19, according to the exercise leaders.
An opening ceremony was held at the foot of the Helan Mountain, with troops from both sides marching in formation for inspection.
The exercise was said to focus on counter-terrorism and security.
The drills come as the Taliban have gained more ground in Afghanistan, creating a security headache for Moscow.
