California wildfires: Dozens of blazes continue to burn as crews struggle to contain spread

CA, 21 Aug 2020
Multiple wildfires continued to burn across northern California on Friday, claiming at least five lives and threatening tens of thousands of homes, authorities say.

The CZU August Lightning Complex Fire in northern California, which has burned at least 40,000 acres, has destroyed dozens of structures and more than 48,000 residents had been evacuated as of Thursday evening.

Fire crews also fought the LNU Lightning Complex Fires near Vacaville in Napa County, which Cal Fire said was at 32,000 acres and was zero percent contained on Aug. 18, forcing them to initiate evacuation orders and close roads.

In total, there are 23 major fires or complexes burning across California, along with other blazes. At least 62,000 people have been evacuated, and 100,000 more were under evacuation warnings.
