Hong Kong police make first arrests under new security laws
FRANCE24, 01 Jul 2020
Hong Kong police have made their first arrests under a new national security law imposed by China's central government.
FRANCE 24 correspondent Oliver Farry says a stand-off in Hong Kong's Causeway Bay saw around 180 arrests.
The law, which took effect shortly before midnight Tuesday, makes secessionist, subversive, or terrorist activities illegal, as well as foreign intervention in the city's internal affairs.
