Two RAF aircraft have flown over Dame Vera's village of Ditchling at midday ahead of a family funeral for forces' sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn.

Author Clare Mulley paid tribute to a 'resilient servicewoman' in Dame Vera, commenting on her travel from gig to gig to boost morale among British troops.

She told Sky News the singer made a 'huge impact' on soldiers' spirits when she met and performed for them near the frontline.
