Ontario health officials are expected to provide an update on the COVID-19 situation on Monday as the province expands vaccine eligibility to everyone 18 and over starting Tuesday, almost a week ahead of schedule.

The acceleration for age eligibility was due to a large supply of vaccines scheduled to arrive in Canada this week.

The briefing also comes after Ontario Premier Doug Ford says summer camps will be allowed to reopen in the province this year.

Ontario is reporting 2,170 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The provincial total now stands at 511,486.

So far, more than seven million doses of vaccine have been administered which is just over half of adults. The province said it is on track to inoculate 65 per cent of adults by the end of May.
