Ontario Premier Doug Ford provided an update on the province's ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday, one day after announcing schools would move indefinitely to virtual learning upon returning from break as the province continues to see record-breaking COVID-19 cases and ICU numbers.

Students in the hot spot regions of Peel Region, Toronto and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, were already moved to virtual learning the week before the break. Schools will reopen pending the monitoring of public health data.

On Tuesday, the province reported 3,670 new COVID-19 cases, a drop from the previous day. There are currently 1,822 people hospitalized, with an all-time high of 626 patients in intensive care units, and 422 patients in the ICU on a ventilator.
