CA, 02 Jun 2021
U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to deliver remarks in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre.
In 1921, over the course of May 31 to June 1, a white mob descended on the Greenwood district - a prosperous Black neighbourhood, burning, killing, looting and levelling a 35-square-block area. Estimates of the death toll range from dozens to 300 people.
On Monday, Biden made a proclamation that May 31, 2021 was a Day of Remembrance and called on Americans to commemorate "the tremendous loss of life and security that occurred over those two days" and to "celebrate the bravery and resilience of those survived and sought to rebuild their lives again."
