The International Olympic Committee’s highly controversial Rule 50, which bans athletes from protesting at any time during the Games, is most likely going to be broken at the pandemic-postponed 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. SCMP sports reporter Patrick Blennerhassett predicts that it will be less a question of who, but how many Olympians will use the opportunity to make political statements as the world watches events from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this video incorrectly stated that the NBA resumed in May 2020, and this is now amended to clarify that the league resumed in July.
