The EU is said to have revised its plan to ban Russian oil after Hungary lashed out at the proposed sanctions.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the ban was tantamount to a “nuclear bomb” being dropped on his country’s economy and demanded a five-year grace period to cut ties with Moscow.

The populist leader added that the EU was at risk of fracturing its unified front against Moscow if it tried to push through the ban by the end of the year.

The bloc has now revised its plans to give Hungary and Slovakia until the end of 2024 to comply, Bloomberg reports.
