Former White House adviser Steve Bannon was arrested on August 20, 2020, on charges that he and three others defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors with an online fundraising scheme called “We Build The Wall”. The US Department of Justice said the crowdfunding project for a barrier along the US border with Mexico raised money under the false pretence that all of that money would be spent on construction. Bannon has pleaded not guilty, and his spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
