Boris Johnson defends Government over 'lost week' before Leicester lockdown
Telegraph, 01 Jul 2020
Boris Johnson was forced to defend the Government's response to the outbreak in Leicester, after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer claimed delays and weak data led to "a lost week whilst the virus was spreading".
The Prime Minister told MPs that ministers had warned about an emerging problem early on and while similar measures had resulted in the virus being brought back under control in other parts of the country, that was not the case in Leicester.
Sir Keir claimed local authorities only had "half the data" which meant the virus was spreading without their knowledge. But Mr Johnson fought back, claiming the Labour leader he was "mistaken" and the full data had been given.
