China eyes US response to consulate closure row

China has closed the US consulate in Chengdu in a diplomatic retaliation to the earlier shutting of its consulate in Houston by the US. FRANCE 24’s international affairs editor Philip Turle says while many in China hope the tit-for-tat will now end, with US President Donald Trump looking to bolster his re-election prospects with anti-China sentiment, nothing is assured.
